Cancer Rehabilitation

At Trinity Health Of New England, our genuine concern for your well-being extends beyond treating cancer. Cancer rehabilitation services help you manage the physical challenges of cancer treatment, so you live the best possible quality of life.

What Is Cancer Rehabilitation?

Treatments for cancer can bring side effects that make it difficult to perform daily tasks. Rehabilitation includes therapies that help you get relief, so you maintain as much independence as possible.

You may benefit from our rehabilitation services if you have trouble:

    • Moving, including walking, getting up from a seated position and getting dressed
    • Eating or swallowing
    • Thinking or remembering
    • Getting through the day because you are always tired or in constant pain

Cancer Rehabilitation: Why Choose Trinity Health Of New England?

Our team helps you recover on your terms. We take time to learn about your care goals. Whether it’s regaining strength or finding new methods of caring for yourself, we are here for you. And we’ll help you achieve excellent results.

Highlights of our rehabilitation services include:

    • Expertise: Trinity Health is home to doctors (physiatrists) and therapists specializing in rehabilitation. Many of our experts have years of experience working with cancer patients. We deliver gentle therapies using the latest techniques, so you can start feeling like yourself again.
    • Coordination: Cancer experts, nurse navigators and therapists are in regular communication about your rehabilitation plan. These frequent touch points ensure you receive appropriate care even if your needs change.
    • Timely care: In some cases, you meet therapists early in your care journey, often before rehabilitation is necessary. This approach enables you to receive services from providers who understand your needs. Our speech therapists are available in some cancer clinics, so you receive rehabilitation services without an extra visit.
    • Ongoing services: After cancer treatment is complete, we continue caring for you through our survivorship program. You receive regular check-ups to detect new symptoms, such as memory problems, that require rehabilitation services.

Cancer Rehabilitation Therapies

We help you set and meet treatment goals with a personalized approach. Your care may include one or more therapies, such as:

    • Lymphedema therapy: Therapists help prevent and treat lymphedema. This condition causes abnormal, sometimes painful, fluid build-up (swelling) in your arms and legs.
    • Occupational therapy: If you’re having difficulty moving, we teach you new methods for completing everyday tasks, such as getting dressed.
    • Physical therapy: Our team includes physical therapists who specialize in helping cancer patients regain strength and get relief from stiff muscles.
    • Speech therapy: We help you push past difficulties with speaking and swallowing.

Trinity Health Of New England Rehabilitation Facilities

Some patients receive care at our rehabilitation facilities. We offer outpatient services, meaning you don’t have to stay in the hospital overnight.

We offer rehabilitation services at:

    • Weldon Rehabilitation Hospital: Patients in western Massachusetts receive care from the region’s only accredited, hospital-based rehabilitation facility. We maintain high care standards in compliance with the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facility.
