New England Pathology Associates, P.C., (NEPA) is a six-member pathology practice located at Life Laboratories on the Springfield, MA, campus of Mercy Medical Center. NEPA offers professional pathology services to primary care physicians and specialists from Ware to North Adams, Greenfield to Enfield.
NEPA utilizes newly expanded histology and cytopathology laboratories which it co-owns in an innovative joint venture with Mercy Medical Center. This partnership, LifePath Partners, LLC, gives the pathologists of New England Pathology Associates operational control of these laboratories and supervision of the technologists, yielding excellent quality control with fast report generation.

“ThinPrep” PAP Test techniques have been pioneered by NEPA pathologists, giving them more experience with ThinPrep technology than any other regional entity. The NEPA cytology laboratory was chosen as one of four clinical sites in the country for studies of computer-assisted PAP testing. NEPA can also test PAP specimens for HPV (human papilloma virus).

Gerald Nash, MD
President of New England Pathology Associates. Board-certified in anatomic pathology and recognized expert in pulmonary pathology; additional subspecialty interest in infectious disease pathology. Formerly Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Baystate Medical Center and Chief of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
Martin Bur, MD
Chief of Surgical Pathology. Board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology; specializing in breast pathology, endocrine pathology and urologic pathology (breast cancer, prostate and bladder cancer, thyroid and endocrine diseases). Formerly Director, Cytopathology at Baystate Medical Center, he coordinated interdisciplinary breast conferences at that institution for many years.
Bruce Dziura, MD
Chief of Pathology and Cytopathology. Board-certified in anatomic pathology and cytopathology, specializing in gynecologic cytopathology. Co-founder and Medical Director of Greater Springfield Pathology before its acquisition by Baystate Medical Center. National consultant for the leading company in ThinPrep pap test technology. Robert A. Goulart, MD
Director of Surgical Pathology and Associate Director of Cytopathology. Board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology; specializing in breast pathology, gynecologic pathology, urologic pathology and gynecologic/non-gynecologic cytopathology. Formerly Director of Cytopathology Services, the Cytopathology Fellowship Program and the Breast Pathology Service at Baystate Medical Center.
Shirin Nash, MD
Board-certified in anatomic pathology; nationally recognized in gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology, additional subspecialty expertise in renal pathology. Highly regarded consultant to gastroenterologists and nephrologists in Western Massachusetts. Dr. Nash was the founding Director of the Pathology Residency Program at Baystate Medical Center.
Krystyna Sikorska, MD
Chief of Clinical Pathology and Transfusion Medicine. Board-certified in clinical pathology and transfusion medicine. Mercy Medical Center’s first full-time clinical pathologist, Dr. Sikorska is liaison between the testing laboratory and physicians, helping to select the most appropriate diagnostic tests. Formerly Pathologist-in-Chief of Mary Lane Hospital and Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine at Baystate Medical Center.
Jeffrey Sussman, MD
Board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology, with subspecialty interests in dermatopathology and hematopathology. Dr. Sussman has held teaching positions in pathology at Yale University School of Medicine and Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. Formerly Pathologist at Life Laboratories, Mercy Medical Center.
Patricia A. Krebs, MD
A graduate of the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY (1989) and the State University of New York School of Medicine at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY (1995), Dr. Krebs was a resident in pathology (1995-2000), chief resident (1998-2000), and a fellow in Cytopathology (2001) at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA. She is licensed in Massachusetts, is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and holds subspecialty board certification in Cytopathology. Dr. Krebs comes to Mercy Medical Center from Baystate Medical Center and Noble Hospital.
