The Department of Education at Mercy Medical Center provides staff development programs that facilitate professional growth and development of nursing staff through orientations, inservice education and continuing education programs.

Inservice programs are designed to provide staff with the opportunity to obtain, maintain and enhance their knowledge and skills.

Mercy offers a competency-based preceptor orientation program that provides new nurses with a structured, individualized program designed to meet their needs. Clinical nurse specialists in both critical care and medical surgical are available for additional support.

The professional practice model for the delivery of nursing care at Mercy Medical Center is a partners model. The model was selected and developed by the Practice Committee which comprises mainly staff nurses from all nursing areas. This model allows the registered nurse and a partner to work collaboratively to deliver quality, patient-focused care.
