Rehabilitation Support Groups

Weldon has a number of support groups for people who need assistance.

  • ASSIST (Amputee Support System in Step Together) -- A peer-level support, education and advocacy group for individuals and their families who have experienced amputation. The group meets at Mercy Medical Center's Deliso Conference Center (lower level), 299 Carew Street, Springfield. For more information, call Jim Garrant at 413-533-2798.

  • Aphasia Support Group -- The group will be held Friday mornings from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Weldon Rehabilitation Hospital's 4th floor Dining Room, 233 Carew Street, Springfield. People with aphasia will find information and fellowship at these weekly meetings. This group is open to people with aphasia, their families and friends. For more information, call Nancy Shimel at 413-748-7486. This group is faciliated by a Speech and Language Pathologist.

  • Brain Injury Support Group -- For people who have experienced a head injury. Families and friends are invited to attend. The group offers participants the opportunity to share their experiences, achievements and challenges in an understanding and supportive environment. The group meets the third Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center's Deliso Conference Center (lower level), 299 Carew Street, Springfield.   • Stroke Support Group -- Stroke survivors, their families and friends are invited to attend. Meetings are held the fourth Monday of every month at 7 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center's Deliso Conference Center (lower level), 299 Carew Street, Springfield. For more information, call Bob Swanson at 413-748-6856.

  • Spinal Cord Support Group -- The Spinal Cord Support Group provides information and support to people with spinal cord injury and their families. The group meets the last Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center's Deliso Conference Center (lower level), 299 Carew Street, Springfield.
