Springfield, MA-–Lisa Planeta, MD, FACS, has expanded her role at the Breast Care Center at Mercy Medical Center and now oversees all elements of the program. A leading board-certified surgeon with extensive experience, Dr. Planeta treats patients with a variety of breast disorders and counsels them about the risks, diagnosis and treatment of benign, pre-malignant and malignant lesions. She joined the staff of Mercy’s Breast Care Center in 2008.

A graduate of the University of Vermont’s College of Medicine, Dr. Planeta completed her internship and residency in general surgery at New England Medical Center in Boston. Dr. Planeta has an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University.
The Breast Care Center is a multidisciplinary treatment center that provides state-of the-art diagnostic technology and advanced treatment options in one centralized location, to provide women with the most complete, accurate and prompt diagnosis and treatment possible. Services at the Breast Care Center are designed to assist a woman from the time of her initial symptoms or abnormal mammogram throughout the entire treatment process. The Breast Care Center also features a Patient Navigator, a dedicated professional who guides patients through their cancer care by providing assistance with appointment scheduling with subspecialists, financial matters, insurance authorizations, counseling, and post procedural garments and support.
