|Holyoke, MA--National Women’s Health Checkup Day is set for Monday, May 13, and MercyCare-Holyoke (Providence Prenatal Center) and MercyCare-Forest Park will mark the event with an offering of services, health screenings and information on the special health care issues of women. The offices will offer screenings for blood pressure and diabetes, free physical and PAP screenings and STD testing for women who do not have health insurance, HIV testing and counseling, and referrals for mammograms. The offices will also provide assistance with Mass Health applications and information and resources on women’s health.
Women often serve as caregivers for their families, putting the needs of their spouses, partners, children, and parents before their own. As a result, women's health and well-being becomes secondary. National Women's Health Week, May 12 – May 18, is a weeklong health observance that empowers women to make their health a priority and encourages them to take steps to improve their physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases. The steps include encouraging women to visit a health care professional to receive regular check-ups and preventative screenings; get active; eat healthy; pay attention to your mental health, including stress management and getting enough sleep; and avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking and not wearing a seatbelt or bicycle helmet.
MercyCare-Forest Park and MercyCare-Holyoke (Providence Prenatal Center) will offer the services and screenings from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m on Monday, May 13. MercyCare-Forest Park is located at 475 Sumner Avenue in Springfield (886-0410). MercyCare-Holyoke (Providence Prenatal Center) is located at 306 Race Street in Holyoke (536-7385).
